We drive to the ancient site of Xunantunich which derives from the Yucatec Maya language and means "Stone Woman". This site is situated on a natural limestone ridge. It is a Classic Period Ceremonial Center dating back to the 7th Century AD and is only accessible via a hand cranked ferry. Once across the river, you have the opportunity to explore the site and climb to the top of ‘El Castillo' one of the tallest manmade structures in Belize, which offers panoramic views of Belize and Guatemala. Enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants in the area before heading back to Hopkins.
