Below are real, honest and unedited testimonials submitted by guests after experiencing a ViVA BELiZE vacation here with us.
“Loved this property!”
Almond Beach Resort was one of my favorite places I’ve stayed. Perfect size, great location, felt like family with the staff & other guests, but still had plenty of privacy. Food was excellent! Fun excursions. Loved everything!
“Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge the place to stay!”
Everything About Our Stay Was Great, From The Staff, To The Beautiful Room, To The Beautiful Setting, To The Excellent Food. We Do Want To Specifically Cite Orlin And Julio As They Were Very Kind, Friendly, And Helpful Staff. They Were So Personable And Made Us Feel Right At Home And We Very Much Appreciated The Personal Touch. If We Come Back To Belize You Can Be Assured That We Will Be Staying At The Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge. We Will Also Be Doing A Post To Trip Advisor, Giving You A 5-Star Rating. Thanks. Bruce And Vickie Lytle
The moment we got out of the shuttle and saw the views of this place we were amazed. Magical. Perfect place to relax and forget the stress of life. Marianne made the stay special with a warm greeting and tour. We left our bags and quickly had a massage under the palapa at the end of the dock. After our welcome drink of course! So many quiet spots to read and relax or sip your drink. Several hammocks with different views, beautiful porches outside the rooms with views of the ocean, swim up bar. Really wish we could have stayed longer. Even when it rained, my boyfriend ran out in the rain and took a swim in the ocean. Staff so kind. We took the free bikes and bar hopped and and met the locals. We could have done that for several days. All rooms have a view. The Village of Hopkins was not too touristy. So glad we selected this spot. Great spot to ride bike is the Curve Bar and Bob’s to the left of Jaguar on the dirt road and to the right Innies. Wish we had time to explore more. From Jaguar on the beach you can walk up and down the beach and visit all the other lodging options which was fun too. Nothing compared to Jaguar for our needs. Would choose Jaguar all over again!
“The Resort is Lovely!”
What really makes it stand out from other holidays is the staff – so obliging, polite, friendly and helpful. I am so appreciative of the assistance I received in getting to the resort the day of my arrival, as I was bumped from my flight. Rafael arranged a shuttle pick up for me at the airport, which saved me from having to find accommodation in Belize City. The excursions were all very enjoyable; I tried ziplining for the first time after hearing from other guests how much they had enjoyed it and found it to be very safe and run in a very professional manner. I would not hesitate to recommend Jaguar Reef to friends who are also looking for a relaxing, safe and beautiful holiday spot – a wonderful introduction to Belize. Thanks, everyone!
“A Lovely Vacation”
We loved our stay at the sleeping giant!! The casita was beautiful, thank you for the upgrade! Each member of the staff that we dealt with was friendly, courteous and helpful. Our excursion to ATM was by far the highlight of the trip (maybe even my life!!) Thank you for a lovely vacation. Will highly recommend to anyone traveling to Belize.
“Heaven on Earth”
This is the hardest review to write, no matter what I say I”m going to miss something. This is the type of place you want to go to and get away from it all. The staff from Marianne at the front desk to the workers on the beach make you feel so welcomed you feel like your a V.I.P. They are the most friendly and helpful anything they can do to make you happy if they can do it they do!!!!! The room my wife and I stayed in room 302 was out of this world, so big, so clean. My wife and I could not believe how nice this room was.The balcony lets you sit back and relax with a terrific view of the water. By the second day my wife and I never wanted to leave ! The food was great the service the best never felt rushed and enjoyed every meal. If my wife and I were to sum it up all together we would say you must experience this place to believe it. To all the staff there thank you for the best time ! My wife and I will return here again and enjoy getting more for the money then you would believe!
“Very Friendly Staff”
Everyone at The Resort were really friendly, smiling and helpful. We really enjoyed our few days there. Thank you
“A little piece of Paradise!”
Beautiful place, excellent staff all were very friendly and helpful. Thank you to Marianne, Captain Larry, Charlie, Joel and especially Ricco who went out of his way to help us when we needed a ride to the emergency room in the middle of the night. We would love to go back, we definitely picked the right place. Miss Sally and Papa Bob
“Incredible Treehouse Experience”
We loved staying in the treehouse. It was so surreal listening to the jungle sounds during the day and night. We were glad we had taken flashlights because it is so dark at night.
The cave tubing was an awesome adventure, traveling through seven miles of caves on an inner tube! The local Mayan ruins were interesting. We were disappointed we could not go rappelling because the lodge was fully booked and could not extend us a day.
The buffet style was amazing. Chef Jay is a creative chef who shares his culinary treats. The staff are friendly and quickly learned our names. Anthony, Johnny, Oscar and Carmen were exceptional staff and entertaining.
Our three days were too short and we would recommend at least four if not more.
“Our New Home”
The exceptional beauty of Sleeping Giant is only outdone by its professional friendly staff. All staff truly cared that our experience there was outstanding in every way. We very highly recommend your business. We would like to move in and stay permanantly!
“Unforgettable Vacation in Belize”
Thank you for a wonderful stay. Mary Anne and your entire staff were outstanding and very attentive during our stay. Access to amenities such as paddle boards, kayaks, and bicycles was effortless and the pools were very well maintained. We hope to return and will recommend your resort to others!!! Thank you again and we will see you in the future.
We especially enjoyed Marianne, Larry, Charlie, Rico, Willie B, Denton and Captain Nick!!
“We'll be back soon!!!”
Most everyone treated us so well and the mountain view room was amazing. We would love to come back next year.
“Awesome Vacation in Hopkins”
Willy B, Iliana, and Edison were all incredible. They always went out of their way to be helpful. Iliana was hilarious on the bioluminescence tour. Willy b worked past close to help us finalize arrangements for our departure and Edison made sure we felt welcome every time we walked in to the lobby or restaurant. The rooms were clean, beds were super comfortable and if we needed anything they brought it right away. Thank you guys for an awesome trip
“Best First Visit”
We had a wonderful time at the Sleeping Giant. The lodge and the grounds were immaculate!. We were so thankful for the wonderful bed too. You have a remarkable attention to detail. But I would like to say the best thing of all about the Sleeping Giant is the people you have working there. The service they provided was truly genuine; (I hate the sticky, fake type of customer service you seem to find everywhere these days!) Its obvious that Eugene, Garrett, Barb, Juilio and everyone else we got to know really enjoy working there and take a lot of pride in what they do. Even the housekeeping and grounds keepers were super friendly and smiling always. They made us feel truly welcome and cared for. I loved how Garrett took care of us by providing us tea and honey when we both came down with sore throats shortly after our arrival. Thanks Garrett! When my husband mentioned that we wanted to spend the last two days by the sea and were planning on driving back and forth to Hopkins, Eugene worked some magic of his own and got us accommodations at the Villa Margarita for our final 2 nights in Belize. He made our first visit to Belize perfect! Our visit was truly magical and I hope that we will be able to visit both places again! VIVA BELIZE!
We really enjoyed the stay at Villa Margarita. We had fun riding bikes to Hopkins Village and surrounding area, and the tours we went on were great. The staff was so friendly and helpful as well: Marianne, Willie, Udell, Ricky, just to name a few. We plan to return to this wonderful place!
“Relaxing Vacation in Hopkins”
I absolutely loved my stay in your resort and will definitely come back for another visit when in Belize. There are so many staff members I want to recognize but that would take all day. Captain Larry was awesome, the gardeners (Elroy) for picking fresh coconuts out of the trees for me, Marianne, Charlie at the pool bar. Everyone was so friendly and kind. I have raved about my trip since I have been back. It was a really memorable and relaxing vacation. Thank you.
“Amazing, Serene, Tropical Paradise!!”
Wonderful Service…The Manager “Eugene” went above and beyond to make my stay Incredible. The Casita I stayed in was Awesome!! So comfortable and spacious. I felt so Relaxed. The staff are so incredibly attentive to your needs. I can’t say enough about the Sleeping Giant Lodge!! If you want a Peaceful, Quiet and Amazing Trip Go. Thanks for making my first Belize Solo Trip a Wonderful Experience. I will be Going back to the Sleeping Giant Lodge :)
“State of the art experience!”
My wife and I have traveled extensively all over the world. Our overall experience at Jaguar Reef Lodge was as good as any resort we have stayed. Our room and interactions with your staff were perfect. In particular, Marianne and Willy B were outstanding.
“A Perfect Trip”
This was just a perfect trip for us!! The staff made us feel so at home calling us by name and making sure all our needs were being met. Eugene made sure we were happy with our room. Abner, Julio and Gareth were so kind and helpful. The resort is a very special place and we so enjoyed being surrounded by the beauty of the jungle. We took many pictures to share with friends and family. We have traveled a lot in our 32 years of marriage and agree that this was one of our favorite trips. Thanks, Julie and Joe Black
“Awesome trip to Belize”
Our whole time was awesome. Hats off to the staff and especially Marry Anne. Who made our wedding possible. From Howard and Kellie, Thank you so much. Will recommend you to anyone!!!
There is nothing I could possibly complain about! This Jungle Lodge is perfection! Everyone from the bartenders, servers and cleaning ladies were beyond anything I could ask for. The only thing I was sad about, about this place was leaving! We did come back on our ride to the airport because we missed this place so. I had a hospital run the one evening while our daughter stayed at the lodge and the staff treated our daughter like a queen. When coming back to Belize, we will be staying at Sleeping Giant again.
“Single Greatest Trip”
This was the single greatest trip my wife and I have been on thus far; it was even better that we came to Almond Beach for our 5 year anniversary. The staff cannot be commended enough for its professional and exuberant support and entertaining. Some names that specifically come to mind are Marianne Blechschmidt, Charlie Castellanos, Felicia Cordova, and Duarte Dellarole. We will definitely be recomending all of our friends/family to visit Almond Beach Resort. Hopefully my wife and I will be able to return soon as well!
“Happiness in Hopkins”
We recently returned from a family trip with friends to Belize where we stayed at the Almond Beach resort in Hopkins. We had a wonderful experience there. After a long trip and delays at the airport Marianne was awaiting our arrival with a warm smile and a friendly welcome. She showed us to our rooms which were the two bedroom suites ocean front on the second floor. The view is stunning and the suites are convenient to the pools, dock and beach. The property is clean and well maintained. The employees work extremely hard to ensure the beach is raked and the beach towels stowed in the closets by the pool.
Everyone we met at the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly as can be. A shout out to Angel at the dive shop for all his help arranging our final open water dive and to Fermin at the pool bar for his tasty cocktails. Oh, and for you scuba divers the hotel uses Splash. The boat will pick you up right from the dock. Great company, extremely professional.
Its so hard to imagine what a resort will be like but the pictures on the website are accurate. Of course even better when you are there. I liked the feel of a smaller resort and what it had to offer. They offer many excursions for you to sign up for. We went and saw the Macaws which was lucky timing. They were stunning to see out in nature. Charlton was our tour guide. He was the best! That man can spot anything while driving, even a 9 foot crocodile! Being in Belize forces you to slow down a bit and enjoy what is in front of you. The wifi can be sketchy at times, but hey you are pretty remote and it was nice to break the habit of checking my email all of the time!
This hotel was perfect for our two families. I will definitely recommend it to friends and and family. A truly special place.
The experience overall definitely exceeded our expectations. I will be highly recommending this to others. Things that were “extra” that I loved: The towel animals and room flowers every day (made us feel special… I hope they got my snowman the last day!). The dining staff (Barbara and Gareth) and warm rolls at dinner. Also, I had no idea that the grounds would be so spectacular! We added one last night just to enjoy the surroundings. Nissa, at reservations, was great from beginning to end of our trip. I hope you can pass that along. Thank you for a wonderful trip.
My wife and I came to Almond Beach for our honeymoon. her only criteria was a beach, and as I’ve traveled quite a bit I was looking for somewhere new and interesting. So Belize it was. As incredible as the photos of this place look, they still don’t do it justice. We were in one of their thatched casitas…a stand-alone hut about 60 feet from the water. It was a hell of a thing to wake up to every morning. The furnishings were very comfortable, particularly the bed which was unbelievable. Bonus points for having a water cooler with purified water for us Americans to drink.
The staff and people at Almond Beach are amazingly helpful and really take care of you for your stay. We had a great time talking to Maryann at the front desk and Rico in the restaurant was awesome. Speaking of dining at the resort, it’s very good, but just a tad pricey. An average meal for one person with a simple beer or soda (no cocktails/highballs) will probably run $25-$30. Like I said, a little pricey but certainly not outrageous and it’s quite good. The coconut white rice or chaya dip is borderline life-changing. I was not brave enough to eat in the village so I don’t have much else for comparison.
If you’re looking to do a lot of work requiring an internet connection, you may be out of luck. The 3 public wifi spots are slow and somewhat spotty. Then again, if you’re relying on internet that much, why on Earth are you on a beach in what is essentially paradise?
The resort is very close to the relatively small village of Hopkins…about a mile away. You can walk, borrow a bike for free, or rent a golf cart if you feel like going into town. And you absolutely should. Sure, it’s a little touristy and doesn’t feel quite as “foreign” as you might expect or be hoping. But everyone is extremely friendly and very interesting. Stop by and see Alex, the guy who sells his seashell and wood art right off the main road. He does some beautiful work and is ridiculously entertaining.
All in all I’d like to that Almond Beach’s staff for an unforgettable honeymoon my new wife is still raving about to anyone who’ll listen.
“Almond Beach Resort the place to stay”
The employees were off the chart as to being excellent . They took care of everything we needed !!!! When I come back to Hopkins, Belize I will be rebooking at Almond Beach !!! They really paid attention to detail . All the things that you can see and do in Belize were provided at the front desk simply sign up and you were scheduled for the next day!!
“ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! A must stay in Belize!”
Well, where do I start. Villa Margarita is amazing. It’s new as of 2014 so everything is fresh and clean. We rented a 2nd flood unit which had a amazing view, a gourmet kitchen loaded with everything you could possibly need. My wife and I went to the store during the day and bought our own beer and food and even made a great home cooked dinner for two one night instead of going out. The room is massive, it’s more like a luxury condo then anything. The bedroom is separate and down the hall from your massive kitchen. They have free wifi and it works terrific. The bathroom was fabulous as well. You have a front and back door to your unit and it’s very secure at night and they even have security walking around all night. Nothing not to like about Villa Margarita! It’s also part of the Almond & Jaguar resorts so your allowed to use both resorts amenities while no one else can use yours! Villa Margarita has a wonderful, clean pool and hot tub and most likely you’ll be the only ones in it all day during off season. Their is also a great swim up bar at Almond Beach that offers a great happy hour daily! Literally about a minute away walking on the beach.
Once again, you would be hard pressed to find a more impressive place to stay then Villa Margarita! Off season prices are amazingly cheap! Bed is a memory foam mattress and is so comfortable. No complaints from this couple!!! Would go back and stay at the Villa in a heartbeat!
“Excellent service! Great value! One of the best places we've been to.”
We found this place on Groupon and booked the trip to celebrate my 50th birthday with another couple. The service was superb, better than any other we’ve found in our Caribbean travels. The staff was great and helpful with even the smallest requests. When we arrived, the beds were not set up as we expected and they immediately changed them. When the staff asked how we slept and we replied that the beds were too hard, they put a softer topper on them within a couple of hours. The staff were consistently responsive to our needs and requests. When we asked about where to celebrate my 50th birthday, the housekeeping staff surprised us by leaving us 2 small bottles of champagne and putting a nice towel decoration on my bed (see photos). The tours from the hotel are reasonably priced and very enjoyable. In terms of getting to Hopkins, we advise taking the short flight from Belize International. Have the resort book it and they will also arrange transportation to and from the airport for you. Wifi is spotty but don’t blame the the hotel as it’s an infrastructure issue. Instead, disconnect and enjoy the sights and sounds. All in all, we had a fabulous trip and would recommend it to anyone considering a trip to Hopkins, Belize.
“What An Awesome Place & Staff, Woff Woof !”
We had such a wonderful time from arrival to departure; Carmen and Eugene went out of their way for any needs we had and the place is small and very personal. Great food, great staff and we stayed in one of the brand new Casitas, awesome! The excursions were OTH, The ATM is the best one, if you can handle it. The 5 Barrel Rum was very good as well. Was a truly relaxing time. No TV’s and minimal cell with little WIFI service, just what the mind needed, true disconnect. Hound Dog, Ruff Ruff!
“Wonderful from start to finish!”
We just loved Almond Beach. Ten of us convened for a wonderful family trip. The beach is beautiful with very calm water for swimming. The food is quite good, especially for the price, combining creative local cuisine and more traditional continental favorites. Jorge, our waiter for lunch and dinner, couldn’t have been more gracious. The dining room has 180 degrees of floor to ceiling windows and doors out of which you step directly onto the beach (hammocks and all). Plenty of beach towels and chairs, and the resort never feels crowded. The snorkel excursions with Alfonso were the highlight – the reef is breathtaking and Alfonso took us to his favorite, uncrowded spots. The jungle excursions were also great fun. All of the staff were friendly, courteous, helpful and responsive. Marianne at the front desk is truly a gem. The drinks were generous and they have premium liquor, not just local stuff.
The resort is definitely a bit rustic. No wifi in the rooms although it’s fine in the public spaces. No gold faucets in the shape of swans so if that’s your thing, this is not your place. Great A/C in the bedrooms. Beautiful carved four poster beds. Massages at the end of the pier overlooking the gorgeous water & view. It’s a wonderful base for exploring Belize. The value is terrific and you get way more than you pay for. We would return in a heartbeat.
“Luxurious Jungle Adventure in Belize!”
Stayed at Belize Tree Houses in May with my boyfriend and his father and had an unforgettable time. The rooms are luxurious, super unique, and fun – yes, you stay up in the trees!! The showers were particularly amazing.
The adventure tours they offer are like no other… cave tubing + swimming, touring caves to see sacrificial Mayan remains, ruins… all unique and incredibly fun. At the end of the day you have dinner at communal tables and swap stories from that day’s adventure with other guests – which is great for your own planning. I ended up sitting with Ella Anderson, one of the owners and major philanthropists in Belize. She had just returned from conservation work and recommended a wildlife rehabilitation center to me that I excited to be volunteering with for the upcoming month.
There is a relaxing pool and botanic garden on property if you want to take a break from the adventure. I did this one day and walked down the road to the Blue Hole for a swim. Its not ‘the’ Blue Hole where people scuba dive, but a gorgeous little cool jungle pool for swimming and its bright blue.
We did the soap and cheese experiences, both of which they make on property and support the chess foundation for local youths. You get to see how they make soap and sample the cheese.
Highly recommend Belize Tree Houses for a unique jungle experience!
I just happened to be driving through and needed a place to stay. Hopkins is very laid back and calm. The grounds , pool and rooms made this stay absolutely perfect. We went out LionFish hunting and brought the fillets back for the chef. He made the most fantastic sampler platter ever. Best completely chance stop I have ever made.
“Fantastic vacay to celebrate our anniversary!!!”
This was our first trip to Belize, so let me give first timers some hints! This resort is about a 3 hour shuttle ride from the airport. We used Belize Shuttles and Transfers, and they were awesome, punctual, and friendly! You can go on their website and book your ride. We found out later that there are smaller airports you can take to get to your resorts easier, or water taxis. Jaguar Reef’s restaurant, The Paddle House was awesome! The food was so good. Do yourself a favor and be sure to try their Belizean breakfast. I had it four times. Pasta night was fabulous. Best pasta ever. The rooms were comfortable, the people so nice and helpful. Our favorite was Dennis, who always asked and made sure we were comfortable on the beach, He also happened to accompany us on our Sunset River tour and picked fresh mangos and other fruit for us to eat on our tour. He almost fell in the river picking us the ripest fruit! Thanks Dennis!! Maryann was awesome in making sure we had everything we needed. She knew everyone by name and when people were coming or going. She;s a hardworking woman! They rake the sand around the beach everyday. We rented a golf cart and drove down through Hopkins village to eat at the Driftwood Pizza place. Some of the best pizza we have ever had!! The Belizean Hawaiian was sooooo worth the calories. I cannot say enough about our trip. I can see why so many friends have told us to go to Belize. It really was unBelizeable. heeheehee. The only drawback was the wifi was a little iffy. But, as we said, a vacation is also a vacation from phone, email, and wifi, right? Relax, and enjoy the beach my friends!!!
“Amazing Beachfront Cabana, Great Staff, Delicious Food”
My husband and I just got back from a 10 day vacation in Belize. 1 Week at Jaguar Reef and 3 days at Sleeping Giant Lodge. We had high expectations of Belize after seeing pictures and reading dozens of reviews. We can honestly say all of our needs and expectations were met 100%. This was by far the best vacation we ever had.
Check in was quick and Guest Manager (Maryanne) gave us a great tour and orientation of the place. We loved our beachfront cabana… located only a few steps from the beach. I loved going to bed hearing the ocean.
The lodge was almost at full capacity, yet we felt we were alone in a private island.
The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, they made us feel at home right away. Every single staff member works hard but they have a great attitude and enjoy serving, entertaining and helping the guests.
The bartender Rico made fantastic drinks. Happy Hour was the best. We enjoyed 50% discounts all afternoon. Some of the frozen drinks included delicious fruit I never even heard of.
The Beach Captain (Kaptain Larry) and his Associate (Dennis) always had a captivating smile, zest and enthusiasm for life. Frankly, Larry and Dennis are the nicest people we ever met. They climbed trees for coconuts, sang, and pretty much made sure we had everything we needed.
Waiters Felipe and Cesar were delighted to introduce us to delicious food everyday.
The Lodge has seasoned professional tour guides (Gaby and Manuel) who will delight you with history and info of the various landmarks.
Any couples seeking a safe and secluded gorgeous island, with plenty of adventure tours, relaxation time by the beach, a mix of Caribbean culture & food, hiking in the Jungle, this place is for you.
It rained one afternoon but we were pretty happy with the weather considering it is the rainy time of year.
The village closest to Jaguar Reef Lodge has a few markets and small vendors, it is safe to explore. It is not overbuilt. It is certainly not a fancy village. It is a poor area but the natives are great people, friendly, proud of their island/heritage and very humble.
“Best location in Hopkins”
We stayed four nights in Villa Margarita and after checking out all the other hotels nearby were very happy with our choice. Hopkins is a really laid back place where there isn’t a lot of nightlife taking place, or shopping opportunities. This is what we were looking for, but one guest mentioned how they liked Placentia better because there was more to do. Do ride a bike or rent a golf cart to check out the village of Hopkins about a mile down the beach. There are a lot of local restaurants to choose from. We flew Tropic Air from Belize City to Dangriga, which saved a long shuttle drive. It was fun to take a small plane. One travel tip is to have your shuttle driver stop at a grocery store on the way to pick up snacks, beer, rum, etc. We also had him stop at a fruit stand on the way, which ended up using to make sangria. Can’t go wrong here. Great, friendly staff.
