Jaguar Reef Lodge Opens
In 1991, a young adventurous Bruce Forrester, a citizen of Canada, ventures off the beaten path into southern Belize and immediately fell in love with its untamed nature, its beautiful beaches and its friendly native people.
Bruce Forrester becomes the first hospitality pioneer to build and manage a resort on the Central Coast of Belize, near Hopkins Village.
Jaguar Reef Lodge – An Adventure traveler’s dream is born!
Caves Branch was built
In 1995, several villagers from Armenia Village reported to David Hayles that a young Canadian, Ian Anderson, was camping around the Caves Branch River and taking people on amazing tours through the various caves located on David’s property. After several reports, David decided that it was time to approach Ian and experience some of these cave adventures first hand.
Colonial Suites is open
David & Patricia Hayles are looking for land to build their private beach house. They explore beyond the Garifuna Village of Hopkins and find a beautiful colonial style beach house that they renovate and name it Colonial Suites. The Hayles open Colonial Suites and Bruce Foerster with his Jaguar Reef Lodge team manage the property onsite.
Almond Beach Resort Opens
David & Patricia Hayles together with Charles & Pat Hayles (David’s father & Step mother) purchase the land next to Colonial Suites and develop beautiful Almond Beach Resort.
The Jaguar Reef Lodge team is again contracted to also manage this new resort for the Hayles Family. By now, the 3 resorts in Hopkins are under one management team.

Almond Beach Resort opens "The Butterfly Spa"
In an effort to deliver top services and amenities to guests, the Butterfly Spa is built, making the ViVA BELiZE Resorts in Hopkins, the only resorts to feature a Full Service in-house SPA.
Belize Tree Houses Opens
David Hayles and Ian Anderson develop and open the Belize Tree Houses, a boutique section of Caves Branch Jungle Lodge. The 10 Luxury Tree Houses provide a tranquil, hilltop jungle setting, with awe-inspiring views.

Ella Baron create the Botanical Gardens at Caves Branch
Ella Baron & Ian Anderson create the first Botanical Garden with the largest collection of Orchids in Belize. The aim of the garden is to bring awareness to the general public about the beauty and importance of the flora and fauna in Belize.
Coffee Shop at Almond Beach Resort & Spa opens
Pat Hayles opens the first Coffee Shop at Almond Beach Resort & Spa. At any time of the day enjoy a coffee, latte, expresso or capuccino, made from the best shade grown coffee bought from the seven countries of Central America.
Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge Opens
The first private residence and citrus farm of David & Patty Hayles is renovated and transformed into the Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge. Within only three years time, this new flagship of ViVA BELiZE, will make it to the Top Belize Jungle Lodges, winning 6 National and 3 International TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Awards.
